Skcin Patron Crista Cullan Bronze, but not Bronzed!

Skcin Patron Crista Cullan Bronze, but not Bronzed!

Skcin were very proud to see our most recent patron net an Olympic Bronze medal in the women’s hockey, as the London 2012 Olympics came to a close.  They were so close to the gold medal play off, but a controversial Argentinian goal put an end to their hopes of victory in the semi finals and they had to quickly re-group ahead of their bronze medal clash with New Zealand.

The first half of the New Zealand match was tense and goalless, but the second half team GB triumphed and fired their way to a 3-1 lead by the end of the match.

Reflecting on both the semi-final and bronze medal play-off Cullen said “The team demonstrated great strength and determination to claim the first women’s hockey medal for Great Britain in the last 20 years.”

“The semi was definitely the hardest match when the final goal was so controversial but winning that bronze just showed the resilience and character of the team”, she said.

While Cullen had also competed as part of the team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, she said, “The support of a home crowd made every match one she would never forget.  To play in front of 16,000 screaming fans was just amazing.”

The atmosphere on the field was matched by celebrations at the opening and closing ceremonies that left the whole world talking.  For Cullen these were moments that would never be forgotten.

After 10 years at elite level Cullen is uncertain as to weather she will pursue a third Olympic campaign in 2016, right now she just wants to take a little time out and return home to family in Kenya to reflect on an unforgettable experience.
