Great North Run Fundraiser

Karen Elstob recently raised over £300 for Skcin running in the world’s biggest half marathon at this year’s 30th Great North Run. Karen decided to raise funds for the charity after her mum (Stella Elstob) was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma last September.  It was an annual check up with her dermatologist that a small imperfection, which resembled a colourless mole, was found on Stella’s cheek which was slowly burrowing away underneath her skin at the side of her nose, destroying any tissue in its path and leaving permanent destruction in its wake. Stella consequently needed reconstructive surgery to repair the hole that was left after the cancer had been removed.

Karen, 48, of Clifton subsequently became passionate about raising the awareness of skin cancer and decided to run the marathon to raise funds for Skcin who’s primary objectives are to significantly raise awareness of the disease throughout the UK.

Karen finished in a time of 2 hours 24 minutes. She said: “it was a great day, despite being very wet, It was very busy and it had a fantastic atmosphere.”

On Saturday 13th February 2010 Skcin held their 4th annual fundraiser ball at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham. 300 glamorous guests were welcomed to 'Viva Las Vegas' and enjoy a spectacular event comprising a red carpet champagne reception, a four course fine dining meal with wine, live entertainment from Campbell Bass singing songs from the Rat Pack era, a fabulous auction and feature entertainment from the award winning Gordon Hendricks performing live as Elvis with his 5 piece band and backing singers. A casino, stunning showgirls and oodles of glitz and glamour, made the evening yet another to remember.
