“We have a gazebo for outdoor play activities for the infant children, which are also used for sports day activities on the field.



We have 'Pete's 'arbour which provides shade at break times and lunch times and have buildings and trees, which provide shade in various locations around the playground.

The teachers supplemented these activities with ideas of their own, making for a successful Sun Safe Day. The children and staff dressed up in beach/summer wear for the day and lunch was eaten outside. The money raised will be used to buy sun safe resources.”

“Breadsall Primary School has spare hats, both Legionaire style and baseball caps in school along with Ambre Solaire F50 Kids sun lotion. All pupils are emcouraged to wear their hats and ensure they have suncream on during the spring and summer terms. Older pupils put on their own sunscream and younger ones are helped as necessary.”

“Pupils thoroughly enjoyed completing the worksheets offered, in addition to participating in further additional activities offered within the Summer Activity Booklet as well as creative ideas offered by the Cranfield Staff e.g. Early Years enjoyed using musical instruments and actions alongside the "SLIP, SLOP, SLAP" song. Using display materials created also by the school, staff have been able to display work in classrooms in addition to having "5 S" posters (now 6s at Cranfield!) on display! ”

“Following our whole school sun safe assembly, all pupils have agreed to bringing into school a suitable sun hat. Instant impact was demonstrated on the playground the next day. Children have continued to be rewarded for this. As of Monday 18th May 2015, all pupils will be expected to have a sun hat in school. Legionnaires caps are available to purchase and these have been promoted through our Twitter Feed: @ClivetheCrane. ”

“All staff attended our Sun Safety Assembly and were briefed as to the necessity to act as sun safe role models. “We have a very large grounds in which several natural and purchased shade facilities are available e.g. parasols, large 'sails' (purchased by our PTA at a cost of £6000) and trees. Pupils have explored the playground and field and put "I spy shade" signs up to support their friends in locating shade. ”

“The entire Academy enjoyed a very special Sun Safety Day, beginning with a whole school assembly which used and adapted the introductory assembly plan offered. All of the children found out about Mr P's trusty 'Sun Safety' bag which he takes everywhere with him during sunny times of the year! The children learnt that, just like George the Sunsafe Superstar, to SLIP (a t-shirt on), SLOP (some sun lotion on), SLAP (a sun hat on), wear some SUNGLASSES to protect their eyes and find some SHADE! Children joined in with the assembly and wore props to support the message. The feature of a large inflatable sun was very engaging for the younger pupils. The assembly and day's learning was shared with parents through our Academy website:

“We have recently had a cover areas erected in the garden, this is to provide shade during the summer months and provide a sheltered area for the children to play during the bad weather. The children also build dens, this also provides extra shaded play areas and a great place to have snack time.
