South Normanton Nursery School Completes Step 3 towards becoming a Sun Safe Nursery - Teaching Resources & Activities

Congratulations to South Normanton Nursery School for reading George the Sun Safe Superstar to all their children and introducing everyone to the ‘Slip, Slap, Slop song’.South Normanton Nursery School have also pledged to continue to regularly use the resources provided to reinforce the sun safe message to their children.


“We had a Sun Safe week at school and all Nursery children (96 children) read the story and covered lots of learning about sun safety. I undertook some lesson observations in this week and the children showed that they had an understanding of staying safe in the sun. They all participated with great enthusiasm and each child, even children with EAL and SEN were able to give examples of how to stay safe. The song has become a favourite alongside our other 3 sun safe songs that we sing anyway. A parent commented on how their child had reminded them of how to stay safe!”

“A sun safe week has become a permanent feature on our long term plan and we will use the resources each year to support this. Sun safety has become a fixture in our induction for new children, in our school booklet and on our website. Our sun safe policy will also be approved at Full Governing Body meeting next month and this will be reviewed yearly. We will ensure that sun hats are available for children to use when they forget theirs and sun cream is also available in our disabled facilities for parents to use if they have forgotten and we can then support them to remember!
