“We have many trees on our estate and on our play areas. A large sail has recently been erected in the Senior playground. The Preparatory playground will next year be redeveloped and we are hoping to plant a Willow Tunnel to provide shade also.”

“This is now the second annual assembly we have held. In the most recent assembly we watched the short animated video of George the Sunsafe Superstar. Two 'sun safe superstar volunteers were then chosen to come to the front and put on sun-hats and capes and answer questions! It was a good way to revisit all the important points from the video. ”

“we have a shelter on the top half of the playground which is used for many things, one of which is to provide a shady area for children during outside activities. We also have a shady 'banking' area at the bottom of the playground with trees providing a cool shaded area.”

Congratulations to RATHMELL PRIMARY for issuing letters and Sun Safety leaflets to the parents / guardians of all of their children. RATHMELL PRIMARY have also pledged to make sure that all children have access to Sun Hats & Sunscreen and that all teachers at the school will be good role models with regard to sun safety.

“The school has a number of shaded areas for the children to access during breaktimes. There are trees surrounding the field providing shaded areas for pupils, which also includes various seated areas. With support of our PTFA, we have recently put up two canopies for extra shade.”
